This workshop introduces participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the Fungi Kingdom, specific to fungi found in the Little Desert region, but also within wider Australian and international contexts.
It includes an interactive and illustrated seminar on the major fungal groups, fungal ecology, and the natural and cultural history of fungi. Fungal specimens form the local area and beyond will be displayed, discussed and examined during the workshop.
Following the seminar, participants will engage in a hands-on identification session where they will learn to recognise and differentiate the various characteristics used to identify fungi in the field, using specimens and other resources. The importance of fungi conservation will also be discussed in the context of local ecosystems and environmental issues.
After lunch there will be an exciting foray at Snape Reserve through various local habitat types searching for fungi of interest (maximum 2 km walk).
